Central American and Caribbean U20 (Junior) Athletics Championships started in 1974. The event traditionally held together with CAC U18 Champs from it's second edition. At the first event held in Maracaibo, 196 athletes from 10 countries have been contested. The participation by nations have reached 22 in 1994, then topped to 32 in 2002 edition. The event generally contested in good level at juniors as several best-known athletes such as Javier Sotomayor, Veronica Campbell, Ato Boldon, Caterine Ibargüen have been there in the past.
