Biography
East German sprint great. Born as Marlies Oelsner, then used her name as Marlies Göhr after marriage to footballer Ulrich Göhr.
She has two Olympics and World Champs golds and 10-time European titlist in overall. With a nearly 15-years span at international scene, had 34 podiums in all championships she entered.
On July 1st, 1977, Marlies Göhr became first-ever female athlete to ran under 11 seconds in 100 metres (10.88). Lost 100 metres Olympic gold by 0.01 to Lyudmila Kondratieva. Competed three Olympics and secured four medals. In European Champioships, she became first woman to have three back-to-back golds in 100 metres.
With many East German stars, she was under suspicious about state-sponsored doping programme. But she denied drug allegations as replied them with a proof of "her longevity on track life".
